ALL BLACKS IN AUSTRALIA

FIRST TEST TO-DAY. After such a rough trip at the All Blacks had across the Tasman it- is safe to say that all enthusiasts, particularly in view of the improvement that has been made in Australian football, were dubious us to the result of the opening match. All were pleased, therefore, when the news came through that it bad resulted in a draw, even though there was no score. The match was played under wet weather conditions that probably suited the Ail Blacks more than the Australians. Against Newcastle on Wednesday the All Blacks had a runaway victory in which it was pleasing to note the success of several of the new wearers of the All Black jersey. To-day the team will be put to its first severe test when they meet Australia in the first test match at Sydney. Tho Australians have been training solidly and making careful preparations in order to defeat their doughty opponents, and while no one would begrudge them a victory if they won on their merits, as the aim of the New Zealand tours has been to improve Australian Rugby, one can rest assured that the AU Black team will put its best foot forward. Though Taranaki has not a representative in the test team the result will bo awaited with great interest. It is certainly somewhat disconcerting to find that tho captain, C. G. Porter, and tho vice-captain, W. C. Dailey, are both out of action. Particularly unfortunate is the absence of the latter, as it leaves the team without an international scrum half. Apparently Tuck, Wellington, who was taken at the last minute as second half-back, has not yet fulfilled expectations as H. Lilburnc, Canterbury, has been pressed into tho position. Ho is, however, a versatile player, having proved equally successful nt full-back and five-eighths, and the writer thinks he also filled the role of half-back occasionaly in South Africa. He can be relied on to rise to the occasion. C. Oliver, the Canterbury five-eighth, Geddes, the Southland wing-threequar-ter. and Waterman, North Auckland, all appear to be making good in their positions, whilst Cundy should make a good substitute for Porter. The forwards can be relied on to hold their end up, and all considered one can look forward to tho result without' misgiving. ITINERARY IN AUSTRALIA.
