KAPUNI RESIDENTS DEPART

APPRECIATION OF SERVICES. Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Harrison and fam* ily, who are leaving the district for Manaia, were farewelled at the Kapuni Hall last night by a gathering testifying to the popularity of the guests. ' There were over 100 present and dancing was indulged in to music, supplied by Mrs. M. Evans’ orchestra, Mr. H. Eliason being master of ceremonies. Ex* tras were played by Misses 'I. Eliason, M. Evans and Mr. W. Eliason. Vocal item? were given by a Kaponga choral ? party with Mrs. Evans at the piano. The arrangements for an excellent. < supper were m the hands of a committee of ladies. Mr. J. Leslie was chair- £« man of the committee, with Mr; H. fcchweiters as secretary. Opportunity was taken by. Mr. J. Leslie, who is chairman of the . Kapuni school committee, to present Mr. Harrison with a substantial cheque in token" of the good wishes of the community?-. ' and as an appreciation of his services to. the district.

Mr. Leslie expressed regret at the do* parture of their guests and referred to . tho services rendered by Mr Harrison as chairman of the school committee and in connection with the hall and o,ther local activities. .< Mr. A. Lees, a member of the Tarasaki ’Education Board, said he knew their guest as a most progressive supplier of tho Joll company and in his capacity as chairman of the school committee. Mr. Harrison had shown on his ' own farm what could be done to increase and maintain production at a very high standard, and his work as chairman or _ the school committee was invaluable to the district. On behalf of the Joll company, the Taranaki Education Board and himself Mr. Lees wished Mr. Harrison success in his new venture. Mr. E. Scott referred particularly to the cheerful home life of the Harrisons.

Mr. Harrison in reply said there were worse things than being chairman of school committee, and to express his feelings at that moment was one of them. Any work he had done in the district had been done because ho thought it should be done. Ho paid a tribute to the members of the committee with whom he had been associated and particularly to Mr. Lees, who had been of great assistance to the committee. He thanked the speakers for their remarks and tho residents for tho honours bestowed. . .
