POULTRYMEN AT DINNER

ENTERTAINMENT OF EXHIBITORS. At the conclusion of the poultry judging at the Winter Show the New Plymouth Poultry Ciub entertained visiting exhibitors and judges at dinner, Mr. H. J. Hall presiding over a large attendance, including Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., and Mr. H. C. Sampson, president of the Agricultural Society. After the loyal toast had been honoured Mr. Smith proposed “The Taranaki Agricultural Society,” and spoke of the progress that was being made and of the great value of the work it was performing in the interests of the farmers of the district. Mr. Smith also paid tribute to the ability with which Mr.. Sampson was" carrying out the duties of president of the society, and to Mrs. Sampson, who, assisted by a large band of lady workers, was rendering such valued assistance by taking charge of the catering arrangements. He expressed the hope that the enthusiasm dispteyed by the ladies and the officers of the society would be an incentive to townspeople generally to rally round the society and do all they could to further its interests. He wished the society success, and said he would, at all times be prepared to do anything lie could to assist it in its work. In reply Mr. Sampson said the progress the society had made was mainly due to the hearty co-operation of the various committees and to the untiring efforts of the ladies. So long as the society had such enthusiastic committees as the poultry committee attending to different sections of the show, he was confident it would succeed. The society was not content, however, to ho!d a winter show and a stock show.. It was doing a useful work in connection with the boys’ and girls’ c!ubs and with various experiments at the Katero block, and as Mr. Smith had said, was deserving of the whole-hearted support of both town and country. Other toasts were: The Judges (Mr. W. Jones —Messrs. T. Doig, D. Stewart, W. McKenzie); Visiting Farmers (Mr. H. J. Hall—E. Galvin, W. Barker and A. 0. Johnstone); The Ladies (Mr. J. Eva —Mrs. T. Smellie); The Press (Mr. W. Scott—Mr. A. T. Moore).
