CHANNEL MOTOR-BOAT RACE

THE FORTY-NINE ENTRANTS LOST.

By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Jitne 9, 11.38 p.m. London, June 8.

The outboard motor-boat race from Dover to Calais and return yesterday was a fiasco'and was abandoned after three hours. Many of the boats were water-logged, had engine trouble, or lost their way. Some ran out of petrol and drifted helplessly. One was afire. Forty-nine boats left Dover and it was expected the leaders would return in under two hours, but then not' a single boat was in sight. Tugs, fast motor cruisers, lifeboats and yachts put out of Dover for Keystone. After a deal of scouring the Channel all the afternoon and long into the night the various competitors, many of whom had distressing experiences, were all rescued. There were four women competitors.
