COUNTY CLERKS
MEETING OF TARANAKI BRANCH. A meeting of the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Institute of County Clerks was held in Elthain on Thursday, Mr. Ellis, of Taranaki County Council, presiding. The constitution and appointments of the branch were confirmed, Mr. Ellis ' being appointed chairman and representative on tho Dominion executive. . Mr. A. Tiplady was appointed the honorary secretary, the branch headquarters to be at Eltham, Interesting discussions took place respecting various Acts and Regulations under which the counties operate. Office routine and management were compared, and useful suggestions were forthcoming towards uniformity and increased efficiency. The Dominion secretary, Mr. Harding, reported on the various activities of the different -branches throughout the Dominion, showing that useful discussions had taken place in the various branches, several instances of lectures and papers being given upon important matters concerning the duties and responsibilities of county clerks. The opinion was unanimous that - the meetings would undoubtedly conduce towards more unanimity and efficiency, thereby raising the standard of service throughout the Dominion. The chairman, Mr. Ellis, has promised to give a paper at the next meeting, dealing with county laws and regulations.
It was reported that the total of members and associate members was now’ 118.—Argus.
