LANCER WINS'OTAGO STEEPLES. THE PROVINCIAL TO MALMSEY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The second day of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s winter meeting was held in fine weather. The course was in good order and the attendance was large. The totalisator handled J ' 5,418 for the day, as compared with £31,652 on the second day last year. The stewards met after the big race and suspended C. Eastwood for the remainder of the meeting for crossing the field on Malmsey on Saturday. The results arc:—

IDENTITY OF HORSE DOUBTED. “IMPERIAL THORPE” IMPOUNDED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The horse Imperial Thorpe was impounded by the stewards after the running of the Telegraph Handicap at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting to-day. Before the arce the horse was delayed in the bird-cage and examined by the stewards, but was eventually allowed to start. It is understood that the stewards are doubtful about the identity of the horse, alleging that he does not in all respects correspond with the description of Imperial Thorpe on the registration form. . IDENTITY OF DEAD HORSES. Christchurch, June 3. A meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Board decided to, ask the West Australian Trotting Association what practice it adopted to ensure the identity of horses reported dead. This action followed the receipt of a letter advising the resignation of the horses Bingen Lad and Panto, which had been sent from New Zealand. Panto had died shortly after arrival. The board agreed that -when a race was called a cup race a cup must be presented to the winner, otherwise the race would be designated a ha.mliear».
