The cricket match between South Africa and Leicester’ was drawn. In the second innings South Africa lost eight wickets for 354 runs and declared. Siedle made 169. Leicester made 191 for seven wickets. Rain on the second and third days interfered. with the county matches at Lords. Yorkshire, in the first innings, made 359 for five wickets, Oldroyd contributing 147, Mitchell 69, Barber 69, and Leyland 52 not out. The game was abandoned. At the Oval Surrey lost six wickets for 490 and declared. Hobbs made 154, Ducat 171 and Fender 74. Hampshire replied with 147 for eight, Harfield contributino- 52. The match was drawn. At Birmingham Gloucestershire declared with eight down for 493. Dipper contributed 77, Sinfield 76 and Hammond 238 not out. Warwickshire’s first innings was worth 295, Smith making 109 and Bates 59. Barnett took 5 for 50. Warwickshire followed on and made 76 for the loss of no wickets. Gloucestershire won on the first innings. . At Nottingham, Nottingham made 260 in the first innings, Gunn contributing 109. Tate took 6 wickets for 60. In°the second innings they made 147 for the loss of two wickets and declared. Whysall made 64. In their first innings Sussex made 188. Larwood took 4 for 33 and S. Staples 4 for 69. In the second innings the score was 168 for 7, Tate making 77. Nottingham won on the first innings. At Manchester Lancashire’s first inings was worth 280, of which Hallows made 79, Watson 51 and Iddon 52. Clark took 4 for 67. Northants made 192 in the first innings, R. Tyldesley taking 7 of their wickets for 31. Lancashire won on the first innings. At Oxford Kent knocked up 257 in their first effort, Woolley contributing 71. Hillwood took 5 of their wickets for 79. In the second strike they made 128 for the loss of 2 wickets. Ames was 80 not out. Oxford’s first strike was worth 148, of which Barber contributed 63. Woolley took 4 for 59. The match was drawn.
