PLUNKET SOCIETY MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Th© monthly meeting of the I’atea Plunket Society was held on Tuesday evening, Mrs. T. Roberts presiding. Nurse M. Smith reported as under: — Old babies, 42; new babies, 6; visits to office, 87; visits to homes, 13. The resignation of Mrs. Lloyd Robinson from the committee was accepted with regret. Mrs. King brought forward the question of canvassing for new members, stating she had enrolled 12 members. She would like to see-members of the committee endeavour to secure 12 new members each. Mrs. King was applauded for her excellent -work. Details in connection with the annual dance were discussed, the president stating several novelty dances had been arranged. The executive elected was: Mesdames Haddow, King, Mcßae, Semple, Hunger, Pettigrew, Ramsbottom, the president and secretary. Mesdames Mcßae, King, the president and secretary were appointed by the executive to confer with the architect regarding plans for the Plunket and library building. PATEA PUBLIC LIBRARY. A special meeting of the Patea Library Committee was held on Tuesday evening, Mr. A. T. Christensen presiding. A letter from Mr. T. E. Roberts enclosed a draft form of an agreement to be signed by the Borough Council, Plunket Society and Library Committee with regard to the grant of £3700 for the purpose of erecting a combined Plunket and library building in Patea. This sum is to be deposited with the Public Trustee, to be drawn, on as required during the erection of the' building. Any surplus is to be equally divided between th© Plunket Society and the library committee. It was decided that the agreement be I signed by the chairman and the secretary. As tho architect would bo visiting Patea shortly, it was resolved that the chairman, secretary, Messrs. Hamel and Papps discuss plans and details of the proposed building. GIRL GUIDES MANAGEMENT. The monthly meeting of tho Patea Girl Guides’ Association was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Tuesday evening, Mrs. P. S. Finlayson presiding. Mrs. L. Honeyfield and Mr. L. P. Clark (Scoutmaster) were asked to act as examiners for first-class Brownie badges. A discussion took place concerning the celebration of tho Guides’ second birthday, and it was decided that a function b© held in St. George's schoolroom on May 25. Mrs. Finlayson offered to provide the birthday cako for the Brownies. GOLF MEDAL MATCH. Th© Patea Golf Club’s second medal round for the season ,vas played at the Park Farm links during the week-end and resulted in a win for N. Mitchell with a score of 60, while G. Wills returned the best card showing a nett score of 85. Details are: —

COMMERCE AT PATEA. Following are the figures for imports and exports at Patea for March: —Imports, 278 tons; exports, 1442 tons (value £153,500 approximately). GENERAL ITEMS. A heavy earthquake was felt in Patea about 3.45 yesterday morning. The motion was a prolonged oscillation lasting half a minute but not of a violent nature. The apparent direction was north and south. _ . Sportsmen are still meeting with little success around Patea, and although a few pheasants have been shot it is said they are very scarce this season compared with last. The postmaster, Mr. H. A. Green, stated the distribution of new number plates is proceeding very slowly. So far only 16 plates have been issued. Provision has been made to cope with any 1 which may occur towards the end of the month. . - The renewal of radio licenses tor Patea has been almost completed, 51 licenses having been issued to date, leaving about five sets still to be re-licensed.
