FIRST PROGRAMME FROM 2YB
TARANAKI TALKS TO NEW ZEALAND
EXCELLENT RECEPTION RECORDED
VOLUME WEAK IN SOUTH TARANAKI
<• “Good evening, everybody. This is the first official announcement fsiom station 2YB, operated under the auspices of the North Taranaki Radio Society and broadcasting from the premises of Collier’s, Ltd., New Plymouth.” In these words Taranaki’s new broadcasting station announced to the rest of New Zealand on Saturday night that it was about to operate.for the first time.
So successfully did the glad news spread that irf almost dess : IpJUipiSLHfQ TOO J J OTOBO OfiOSSOUI B OTOTj OU Mayor’s speech is coming through splendidly.” Similar.-reports were received from other parts of the Dominion, and many a wireless enthusiast thrilled with the realisation that a new era had begun. Taranaki was on the air, and with a will. 1
Perhaps it was too much to expect that the general;’satisfaction should not be tempered with a little disappointment. Mount Egmont seems to be in the, .way again, and South Taranaki almost universally recorded weakness in volume. The problem of the “shaded” areas'is apparently a subject requiring further investigation and research. New Plymouth received with-such strength and clarity that owners of “unselective” sets., not sharply tuned found difficulty in hearing outside stations. •
