Although the weather was threatening there was a satisfactory attendance for the third day of the Victoria Racing Club’s autumn meeting. Cobranveil was third early but won the Autumn Hurdles nicely. It was Rider Butler's fourth win in the race in five years. , . e There was a splendid contest tor the C. M. Lloyd Stakes. Mollison was secon I early in the race and led at the distance.’Gothic" was last in the straight but ran up to dead heat with the leader in the last stride. Sectional times were: First two furlongs, 26Seec; next two, 24isec; last four, 46|sec; concluding six, Imin 13eec. ... Spanish r< *,lleon on the outside rail led throughout in the Ascot Vale Stakes to win brilliantly. Owner E. M. Pearce won the race last year with Mollison. Jockey Wilson had a previous success with Cyden. Mondiaga was last to enter the straight in the Autumn Handicap, but won “brilliantly. He was ridden by the New Zealander Ashley Reed, and is owned by T. M. Burke. In the Governor’s Plate, which was an exercise gallop, Strephon led all the way. He has now recorded eix wins and a second in nine starts. Nominations for Auckland include the Easter Handicap, Autumn Handicap, President’s Handicap, Brighton Hurdles, Mangere Steeplechase, Onslow Stakes, Eden Handicap, Nelson Handicap, Victoria Handicap, St. Helier's Hurdles, Autumn Steeplechase, Huia Handicap and Islington Handicap. First forfeits are also due for the Great Northern Oaks, Great Northern Champagne Stakes and Great Northern Si. Leger. Nominations and forfeits close with the secretary, Mr. W. S. The Hawcra Trotting Club has an attractive programme for its meeting cn March 30 and April 1, and this progressive club should, receive record entries for the meeting. The Hawera Trotting Cup, two miles, is valued at 600 sovs, and the Manaia Handicap, two miles, 250 sovs; President’s Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, 220 sovs; Auioa Handicap, one mile and a-half, 200 sovs; Matapn Handicap, one mile and a-half, 200 sovs; Stratford Handicap, one mile and a-half, 200 sovs; Nonnanby Handicap, one mile, 200 sovs; and Eltham Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, 220 sovs, are all richly endowed races on the first day. The second day finds the Waimato Plains Handicap, two miles, with a stake of 450 sovs attached, and the Opunake Handicap, two miles, carries a purse of 250 sovs. Nominations close with the secretary, Mr. E. P. Cox, at 8.30 this evening.

The Wellington acceptances to-night will claim a lot of attention, as Taranaki horses are well represented. This province is without a representative in the St. Leger, but the Challenge Stakes finds Bright Glow and Reremoana enThe same pair feature in the Thomson Handicap, and in other races are Vivo, and Valpre. The prospects of Bright Glow and Reremoana are already being discussed, but in the opinion of the writer it will be found that Bright Glow will take on the Thomson Handicap and Reremoana will, be reserved for.,the Challenge Stakes, which he won last vear. Acceptances are due for all the first day’s events at 9 p.m.
