EVERYBODY’S THEATRE?
MATINEE TO-DAY AT 2 P.M.
“A Daughter of New Plymouth,” the sensational local production, supported by Norman Kerry in “Man, Woman and Wife,” will be presented at a special matinee at Everybody’s theatre this afternoon. The screen has seen many war stories of late, but “The Enemy,” a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer current season attraction which is showing at Everybody’s theatre to-night for the last time is not a war story in the accepted sense. It does not show a single battle scene. Instead, it depicts the silent struggle that is waged behind the firing lines by the devoted, mothers, wives and sweethearts who are left to carry on. Lillian Gish appears in*, the role of a young Austrian bride, and gives an inspired performance, with Ralph Forbes opposite her, while Fred Niblo, who directed “Ben Hur,” also directed “The Enemy.” The supports are excellent, and include M.G.M. news, New Zealand scenic and two reel comedy. Commencing a three-night season at Everybody’s theatre to-morrow night is Bebe Daniels in “Hot News,” a Paramount picture that is guaranteed as the funniest production this, clever star has appeared in.
THE PEOPLE’S THEATRE
“ADAM AND EVIL” FINALLY.
No better vehicle for the initial co-'At-arring appearance of Lew Cody and Aileen Pringle could have been chosen 'by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer than “Adam and Evil,” a comedy-farce which is final-. ]y showing at The Peoples theatre tonight. Cody and Miss Pringle make ideal foils for each other, and the, picture abounds with sparkling comedy and thrills from beginning to end. In the dual roles of “Adam” and “AL,” “his twin brother from Brazil, Cody , has ample opportunity for displaying his rare talents as a whimsical comedian, and Miss Pringle as. “Evelyn,” the wife of. “Adam,” leaves no doubt as to. her fiairo for sophisticated comedy. Uhder the direction of Robert Z. Leonard, ’Adam and Evil” has been lavishly produced, a cabaret setting in which several hundreds of dancers take part being one of the high-lights of the picture. Gwen Lee, Roy D’Arcy, Gertrude Short and Hedda Hopper are included in the supporting cast. The suports are :: excellent. To-morrow’s change of programme will feature Iren Rich in “Powder my Back.”
