SWIMMING AND WATER POLO

NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB NIGHT. There was an attendance of over 70 at the New Plymouth Swimming Club night in tho municipal baths last night. Good entries were received for the aggregate races and the fathering was most successful. After exciting contests, Blackmore won tho junior heat of the 150 yards race, and Penman (scratch) defeated H. Watkins (15scc) in the senior event. In the 220 yards race C. Shaw (scratch) was just beaten by a touch by G. Gayton (20 seconds;. The aggregate points now stand as follow:—Men’s 220 yards, Gay ton and Penman, four points each; Shaw and H. Watkins, three points; Bell and Hayton, two points; Godfrey and Allan, one point. Junior 150 yards—D. Gayton and Blackmore, four points each; Charters and Harper, three points; Brien and Campbell, two points; Gunson, one point. Ladies’ 33 1-3 yards— Miss Fox 1 , four points; Miss Smith, three points; Miss Lash, two points; Misses Carthew, J. Lawrey and Fookes, one point each. Durin" the coaching ot the lady members of°the club, considerable improvement was shown by a number of the swimmers, particularly by the Misses Fox, J. Lawrey and Atchley. A polo practice match for the ’Mugs Cup” resulted in a draw. The next club night will be held on Monday.
