WENDY’S DRESSMAKERS

My Dear Children; —A Wendy Lady wants to make herself a night-dress, so thia week we’ll see how to set about it. You will need about three yards of material —wincey, if you want a warm “nightie”; cambric if you don’t mind about warmth. Measure .yourself from your shoulders to about half-way down your legs—nighties are worn shorter nowadays you know—and cut a piece of stuff twice this length. Fold it in half, widthways and lengthways, . and cut as shown in the diagram." The sleeves are just straight pieces added each side; you can cut them from the material left oyer.

Sew up the side seams, and along the eloped shoulder seams, join the sleeves on at the shoulders, and sew'them too. Turn up an inch-wide hem round the bottom; just tack it now, because we’re going to sew it firmly with chain-stitch-ing m pink or blue thread later on. Bind

th© neck edges with a narrow strip of sateen cut on - the cross, and gather the ends of the sleeves into narrow cuffs, to fasten with press-studs. ‘ Now for the trimming. Thread a needle with embroidery thread in pink, or any colour you prefer, and work a line of chain-stitching along every seam except the side ones. There will be a line round the hem, one round the neck, one round each cuff and one round the place where each sleeve is joined to the shoulder. This will make a pretty trimming, and the diagram shows you how to do the chain-stitch in case you do not know. A few embroidered spots in* the game thread will give an additional touch of daintiness to neck, hem and sleeves.

Next week we’ll make a dressing gown to wear over the nightie, shall we? Wendy’s Dressmaker.
