STEAMER LOSES RUDDER
SPLENDID RESCUE BY TUGS.
British Official Wireless.
Rugby, Dec. 31. The Brocklebank liner Malakand, of 7000 tons, homeward-bound from Calcutta, lost her rudder in the Channel yesterday and became unmanageable. Two Dover steam tugs were summoned by wireless and despite the enow, sleet and rain squalls which restricted visibility in the Channel for the greater part of the day, tho crippled vessel was found. With one tug towing and the other steering her she was towed to Gravesend.
