NORTH V. SOUTH MATCH DECISIVE WIN FOR THE SOUTH. TWENTY ONE SETS’ TO ELEVEN. The Eltham glass courts were in excellent order for the annual North Taranaki v. South Taranaki tennis match, which took place' at Eltham on Saturday. Last year the Northern team won easily, the Southern players winning only three sets. This year, however, the fortunes were reversed and the South won by 21 sets to 11. The committee of the Eltham club had made complete arrangements and executed themselves as hosts. The afternoon tea was daintily served by the ladies and the perfect weather conditions made the match enjoyable to the competitors and interesting to the considerable number of spectators. The whole seven courts were occupied, but even then the games were not finished until late in the afternoon. Details of the play are, Northern players being mentioned first in each division. It will be noticed that the Southern ladies were much stronger than their opponents and gave their team a good start by winning all the ladies’ doubles and six out of the eight sets in the ladies’ singles. The men were more evenly matched and some excellent tennis was witnessed. LADIES' SINGLES. Mrs. Haase beat Mrs. Weston, d—2, I—6, 6—3. Mrs. Grant lost to Miss Cave, 2—6, 6—l, 3-—6. DANCE HELD IN THE EVENING. A handicap doubles tournament was played on the Rotokare Tennis Club’s courts on Saturday, nearly 60 players being present. The first prize, a racquet given by Messrs. Cook and Lister, was won by Miss M. Sole, with 111 points. Miss M. Hawkes (108 points) won the second prize, and Mr. E. Jackson (107 points) won the third. In the evening a flannel dance was held in the Westown hall. The arrangements were in the hands of Messrs. E. Jackson (secretary) and A. McCann and R. Sole (masters of ceremony). Music was provided by George’s orchestra and supper was served by a ladies’ committee. HAWERA PARK V. MANAIA. Manaia and Hawera Park plaved friendly games on Saturday. The Park A team met Manaia A at Mana ia and the B teams met at Hawera. The results of the A team are as follow: LADIES’ SINGLES. Miss A.
