PEACE IN INDUSTRY
COMING OF CO-OPERATION MR. BALDWIN'S OPTIMISM NEW METHODS REVIEWED ’ By' Telegraph—Prins Asssi.-'Copjiirfrt. i Australian ■ Press Association. Received Vctobcr 12, 19.19 p.m,. Sun Cable. London, Oct. ’ 11. Optimistic reference to a new era in British industry was made by Mr. Stanley Baldwin, British Prime Minister,: in an address to Sheffield cutlers to-day. Tho facts that the trad© unions were purging the Labour movement of ’seditious elements anil that the industrial peace conference was making satisfactory progress, he said, indicated the dawn of a new, unprecendented era of co-operation. “It is being recognised that no Government alone can bring prosperity to industry,” said Mr. Baldwin. "It .is a •fallacy ■ to think’ a depressed industry can be saved by cutting down selling organisations and advertising.” Mr. Baldwin hoped there would soon be" some qualifying test for directors. The modern, employer who neglected his work-people was guilty of a crime against the ■ community because h© was fostering the very spirit of discontent which inevitably would lead to unrest. A small minority of Buch employers could create an atmosphere of suspicion throughout a whole country.
