The forecast last night was for strong north-west to westerly winds reaching gale force in exposed positions in and south of Cook Strait, and later backing to south-west. Seas rough south of Capo Egmont and in Cook and Foveanx Straits, else where moderate. Scattered showers are likely in western districts but elsewhere the weather is likely to be mainly fine.
