JERSEY BREEDERS’ CLUB
NEW PLYMOUTH COMMITTEE. The chairman of the New Plymouth Jersey Breeders’ Club, Air. H. C. Sampson, presided over the monthly meeting of the club yesterday afternoon. There were present: Messrs. A. R. Gudopp, F. W. Cornwall and G. H. Bell. A vote of thanks was passed to the women who catered at the Waiwakaiho bull fair last Tuesday. The chairman regretted the death of the late Mr. T. S. Cooper, and a vote of condolence with the widow and family was carried. The Director-General of the Department of Agriculture acknowledged a letter of the club’s appreciation of the appointment of a veterinary officer. The Minister of Agriculture acknowledged receipt of a letter from the club offering to assist the superintending officer of the department in combating diseases in dairy cattle. The secretary of the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association wrote that the council was prepared to pay a £ for £ subsidy up to £l5 on donations made by clubs to A. and P. associations. The Jersey Breeders’ Association advised that the following resolution had been carried at the annual meeting held at Rotorua: “That any member of the association holding an unreserved dispersal sale of his cattle shall not be allowed to register the progeny of any cattle sold at the sale for a period of twelve months; also that all stock knocked down to a purchaser must be transferred to that purchaser.” This resolution was framed with the object of preventing the pernicious practices of “trotting” and “buying in” of animals offered for unreserved sale. Alessrs. Sampson, Cornwall and Bell were appointed, delegates to attend' the provincial council meeting. It was decided to insert special novice classes in the Jersey section of the next A. and P. show.
