A HIGH SCHOOL NIGHT

OLD GIRLS GIVE DANCE'. A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. . Gaily draped in orange, the assembly hall of the New Plymouth Girls’ High School presented a delightful picture last evening, the occasion being the 21st birthday party of the Old Girls’ Association. The orange streamers were effectively set-off with clusters of balloons, and the judicious introduction of fernery lent an artistic atmosphere to the scene. Dull care vanished when Coburn’s orchestra opened with the "Cheerie Beerie Be” waltz and, to the Strains of flawless music, over a hundred couples gaily tripped the light fantastic. Smiling damsels, garbed in myriad shades, swung gracefully and executed the many intricate steps of modern jazz with their happy male escorts and danced into the early, hours of this morning. Miss Lois Fox made a popular debut, and was charmingly attired in white nindn, with a pale blue posy and a bouquet in pastel shades, A dainty supper under the charge of Misses B. Hawkins, L. Bell, Q. Gibson, W, Gaytcn, B. Taylor, M. Moyes, L>. Fox and 11. Bullock. Mention must be made of those ladies who worked so assiduously in decorating the hall and precincts. Their number included Misses R. List, M, Grace, M. Kirton, B, Allen, L. Corney and K. Wood.

Coburn’s orchestra made a popular “hit,” and amongst the numbers which received encores were tho popular “Ramona,” “Rio Rita,” “Golden Slippers,” “Smithy/ and “In the Sing Song Sycamore Tree.”

During the .supper interval extras were played by Miss K. Skelton, Mr. K. Neal and Mies Skelton. Miss K. Wood, the dance secretary, must be congratulated upon the completeness of her arrangements and the success of the function.
