AGRICULTURAL MATTERS

GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETS, A meeting of the general committee of the Taranaki Metropolitan Agricultural Society was held in New Plymouth yesterday, Mr. H. C. Sampson presiding. It had been suggested at the previous meeting that a footpath should be laid down on Devon Road from the Waiwakaiho River to the showgrounds. The chairman reported that he had waited upon the county council and had received a promise that that body wouid subsidise any sum raised towards the work, which would cost £2OO. Some donations had already been made by residents. The question of a donation from the society was referred to committee. It was decided to give the Egmont society the use of the catering plant for its forthcoming November show. The borough council’s scheme for the rounding off of street corners was placed before the meeting. In view of the fact that debenture holders would have to be consulted the society felt that it could not nothing at present, but it was decided to notify the council that the proposition would receive favourable consideration in any future building scheme. The Egmont A. and P. Association notified that it had adopted the recommendation of the society that points prizes be awarded in the Tamworth and Large White pig classes. As all three associations have agreed the recommendation will now become effective. A proposition by the conference of New Zealand A. and P. societies for a

superannuation scheme for A. and P. society officials was referred to the finance committee to report to the general committee. Sub-committees to revise the schedules for the autumn stock show were elected as follows:—Cattle, sheep and pigs, Messrs. H. 0. Sampson, W. Hall, J. H.

Allen, W. Gudopp, Turnbull, P. J. Petersen, W. Olsen, Morris, W. B. Grant and T. Wilson; draught horses, Messrs. T. Smellie, W. B. Grant, A. P. Lister and W. H. Jury; light horses, Messrs. L. A. Nolan, R. H. Pigott, W. McKenzie and W. H. Jury. The dates for the autumn show were fixed as March 6 and 7, and for the
