SEASIDE SOCIETY COMMITTEE. FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS IN VIEW (From Our Own Correspondent.) The newly-elected committee of the Waitara Seaside and Surf-Bathing Society held its first meeting on Friday. Air. A. Rawles was elected president, Air. A. Chadwick chairman of committee, Air. J. P. Hughson secretary and treasurer. The works committee elected was: Messrs. J. 11. Kibby, McDavitt, Craig, H. Madsen, L. Clare, Bennett, and Dew, Air, Kibby being appointed chairman, Having had experience in life-saving work, Mr. C. Browning undertook to organise teams. With a view to forming a women’s committee and life-saving teams, and to creating nfbre interest in beach improvements, arrangements for early meetings were made. It was decided to accede to the request for a donation of £2 2s towards painting the signs at the entrance to the town. A general inspection of the society's reserve under its jurisdiction is to be made by the committee with a view to instituting further improvements. Alessrs. Nosworthy, Dunbar, and C. Browning were elected as a finance committee to consider ways and means of raising funds. FIRE BRIGADE COMPETITION. The Waitara fire brigade held in the week-end a two-men coupling event competition for gold medals provided by the brigade. Eight teams competed. A. J. Canton, the judges were Alessrs. Canton and Bird, and the starter and timekeeper was Mr. T. Fowler. SUCCESS OF FLOWER SHOW. The Waitara Alethodist’s spring flower show came to a successful conclusion on Friday, visitors being present from all parts of Taranaki, the stalls being patronised in a most generous manner. In the evening the unclaimed exhibits were sold and the Rev. McGregor presented the prizes won. The judge of the cut flower section, Air. T. C.'Davies, gave a short speech and congratulated the organisers on the excellent show obtained. The total takings were in the vicinity of £l7O, and it is expected that £l2O will be the net profit. GENERAL ITEMS. A young Alaori named K. Tawa. was brought before Messrs. Nosworthy and Parry, J.’sP., on Saturday last to answer a charge of theft of a pair of boots from Air. Bennett’s shop. He was fined £2, in default. 14 days’ imprisonment with hard labour. “The chairman stated that the punt "on the slip which had been deflecting the water against the bank had been moved and was now located at the pilot station,” read a report of the Waitara Harbour Board meeting. The actual position was “that Alessrs. T. Borthwick and Sons wrote requesting the board to remove the punt from their slip, as the water was deflecting on the bank. The chairman replied stating that the punt had already been removed before the receipt of the letter.”
