“FLYING IS IN THE BOOM”

POSSIBILITIES IN AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph.— Press Association. Auckland, Sept. 24. Sir John Salmond, Commander-in-Chief of the British Air Forces, arrived by the Aorangi. Interviewed, he said: “The commercial aspect of flying has made great strides in the Commonwealth, which has wonderful visibility, enormous tracts of territory, and important outposts which civil flying is capable of bridging. The latest link is between Perth and Adelaide, which contains for the greater part practically no habitation. “I am not exaggerating when I say that air matters are very much on the boom, and flying clubs are largely responsible for the public interest. They are fundamentally essential to maintain public interest.” In respect of world flights by British airplanes, Sir John said that nothing had been arranged so far as he was aware, but as matters were moving very quickly in the sphere of flying one never knew what was going to happen next..
