FIERCE FIGHT WITH A BULL
WHAKATANE FARMER’S BATTLE. (By Wire—Special to News.) Auckland, Last Night. A fierce fight with a dehorned Friesian bull was the experience of J. Grose, a farmer of Whakatane. He was in a paddock with a horse and cart when suddenly the bull attacked the horse. In order to protect the horse Mr. Grose endeavoured to beat the bull off with a stick. Thereupon the animal turned on him and knocked him down. Hie position was very precarious, as the huge beast endeavoured to kneel upon him.
Grose seized the ring in the bull’s nose, but the beast got away and made another rush at the prostrate man. Grose then caught hold of the bull’s ears and the animal started to drag him about the paddock. Grose suddenly let go of the beast’s ears and succeeded in climbing into the cart. Seizing a pitchfork he again attacked the bull, which had turned its attention once more to the horse. After a strenuous fight he succeeded in beating off the infuriated animal and reached his home in an exhausted condition. He received severe bruises and will be confined to his bed for several days.
