HALL SOCIETY AND SPORTS CLUB. The annual meeting of the Waihi Memorial Hall Society was held last night, Mr. F. W. Matthews presiding over an attendance of 11. The balance-sheet for the year ended March 31 showed that receipts totalled £227 5s (including £59 17s 6d brought forward), this being mainly the proceds of dances, sporta and dog trials. Additions and alterations to the hall cost £320 fe 5d and the bank overdraft totr’led £209 17s. The assets (£900) exceed .1 the liabilities by £O9O 3s. The balance-sheet w-as adopted, the ehairman remarking that it had been a successful year and if next year were as successful the overdraft should be very much reduced. The secretary (Mr. L. 11. Sampson) said the overdraft at date was £195 19s. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr. J. Draper; vice-president, Mr. J. M. Purdie; committee, Messrs. J. Robinson, G. N. Skelton, J. Cole, A. Parli and J Edwin; secretary and treasurer, Mr. L. H. Sampson; auditor, Mr. J. M. Purdie; custodian,'Mr. N. Edwin; social committee, Mesdames Rackley, Draper, McKay, Dotham senr., the Misses A. Honeyficld, N. Skelton, Messi's. F. Parli, J. Diaper, H. Honeyfield, S. Smith and N. Edwin (re-elected). The secretary wae voted an honorarium of £5 sb. Votes of thanks were passed to the ladies and to the Press. A meeting of the Waihi Collie Club was held afterwards, Mr. Matthews presiding. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £2l IDs 2d. Receipts amounted to £127 Ils 7d, including a balance 'brought forward of £32 5e 7d, gate takings £6 18s 6d, refreshments £lB 19s 6d, shgep guessing £3 lb's, donations £4 13s, entry fees £27 15« 6d, dance £l7 3s 7(1, and tickets £l3 ss. The main items of expenditure were prize money £3B 4s and goods and refreshments £l6 18s. Everybody would agree that the trials had been most successful, said the chairman. Many of the competitors and visitors had expressed the opinion that the gathering was the best they had attended and had said they would return the following year. The adoption of the report was moved by the ehairman, seconded by Mr. Diaper and carried. Officers were elected as follows:—Patron, Mr. F. Sarten; president, Mr. F. W. Matthew’s; vice presidents, Messrs. H. A. Foreman and H. M. Purdie; secretary, Mr. N. Edwin; assistant secretary, Mr. J. M. Purdie; treasurer, Mr. J. Draper; auditor, Mr. L. 11. Sampson. Mr, Robinson said great credit was due to the ladies for the way they had worked in providing refreshments during the trials. They would not have been able to carry on without them. The chairman endorsed these remarks and said that they applied also to Mr. J. Edwin, who was the “father of the club” and. had always been only too willing to make his farm available for the trials. Votes of thanks were passed to the ladies, to Mr. Edwin, to the judge (Mr. tV. B. Grant), the chairman and the secretary. It was decided on the motion of Mr. Draper that after the payment of current accounts the balance should be transferred to the hall society account. Messrs. Matthew’s and Edwin were authorised to apply for suitable dates for tho next trials.
