HUGE GIFTS TO CHARITIES
TRUST CREATED IN ENGLAND. HALF MILLION FOR ORPHANS. British Official Wireless. Rugby, Sept. 21. Air. Bernhard Baron, chairman of a well-known British tobacco firm, whoso previous gifts to charities amount to more than £1,250,000, has set aside £500,000 for the benefit of hospitals and homes for orphans and' crippled children during the next 20 years. A trust has been created and some of the money available each year will be distributed on the anniversary of Mr. Baron’s birthday. The trust stipulates that the money available for distribution shall l>e applied in the proportion of 75 per eent among Christian, undenominational hospitals, homes and asylums, and 25 per cent, among similar institutions under. Jewish control. Mr. Baron is 78 years old and for several years has celebrated his birthdays by generous disbursements.. Last year he gave £lBO,OOO to charities. He was born in Russia of French descendants and became a natnraUixi Englishman many vears ago.
