Y.W.C.A. ACTIVITIES

MEETING OF THE BOARD. Tlio monthly board meeting of the Y.W.C.A. was held on September 19. Present: Mrs. Alexander (in the chair). Mesdames Blundell, Johnstone, Davie, Instill, White, Wyatt, List, Ayckbourn®, Misses Drew, Harrison, Stocker, Gillies. Apologias were received from Mesdames Weston, Clark, Nisbet-Smith, and Miss Haydon. The minutes from national head quarters were read regarding the Flock House scheme for girls. The establishing of a travellers’ aid bureau in Rotorua is to be under the control of the Y.W.C.A. Mrs. Davie reported a steady month's work amongst the Girl Citizens. A community gathering was held in St. Mary’s Hall on August 21, fifty Girl Citizens and a number of parents and friends being present. New Citizens uere enrolled, and those who had earned Citizen brooches had them presented by Mrs. Davie. Recommendations from the Citizens’ Council for conference were passed by the governing body. The senior club reported an interesting six weeks’ programme, which included a talk on “Civics” by Mr. Day, a visit to tlie observatory, talk on “Home Nursing” by Sister Corkill, and two games and competition evenings. They bad planned the next six weeks programme for club night, which should be most interesting. Tlie senior club meets every Wednesday evening at 7.30. and members would be glad to see any girls interested. Mrs. Blundell reported that the Mothers’ Club held their annual meet iiig during the month. The club had had a most successful year, and was justifying it« existence. During the year various people had given interesting talks on different subjects. The next be held at the hostel on Thursday, September 27, at 8 p.m., and the committee would be delighted to welcome anyone interested in the movement. Mrs. Insult reported for the hostel that there were 17 permanent boarders, and 26 visitors had stayed during the month. Mrs. Blundell proposed a vote of thanks to Miss Gillies for her work during the year, and suggested she should have a week’s holiday as soon as possible.
