FIVE=A=SIDE SOCCER

WIND-UP OF THE SEASON I FAST PLAY AT WESTERN PARK, CALEDONIANS BEST OF SENIORS. The quality and speed of the football that wound up the Association season in New Plymouth on Saturday deserved a much better attendance at Western Park. Playing incognito, five referees and ' five officials gave an exhibition. What i the game lost in science it recovered I in comedy that was very much appreciated by the spectators. If there were any goals scored, it was quite impossible to record them, for the keenest observer could not have penetrated the heavy disguises to discover who were referees, who were officials and who were neither. Nor could he have said who were men and who were women. But even had he answered all those questions satisfactorily, he would have been faced with the insurmountable difficulty of deciding whether the game played was Rngby, league, baseball, or soccer.

Details of the tournament are as follow: — JUNIOR FIRST ROUND. Moturoa defated Rangers (3 corners to 2). —The first game between Rangers and Moturoa, was a fast and even exhibition. Moturoa were now doing the attacking. Boyle and Milne did some good defensive work when Simpson again manoeuvred for a shot. Alsop missed with a shot at the other end. Time came with the honours even but in a minute’s extra play Moturoa gained another corner. Then Hill goaled a shot. L. Henderson and Hill again crowded the net and Mells and his colleagues were given a hot time. McKay put in some good defensive work. For a brief period O’Neill was given something to do in goal for Caledonians, McKay being prominent on attack. Then Hill received near Moturoa’s goal and sent on to Gardner for him to score. Soon after the changeover Hill scored Caledonian’s third goal. Hill sent on to L. Henderson from a throw in and the latter shot over tire bar. C. Henderson next shot, but McKay, now in goal, diverted the ball. L.
