WESTERN PARK CRICKET
SUCCESSFUL SEASON’S ACTIVITY
The annual meeting of the Western Park (New Plymouth) Cricket Club was held last night, Mr. V. Elliott presiding over about 20 members. The past season had been a very successful one, stated the committee’s report. The club entered one senior team and one third grade team in the competitions. The senior team were run-ners-up in the senior division, and the third grade team won their division and held the Whittle Cup. In previous years the junior team had been handicapped in several of its matches through not being able to put a full team in the field, but during the past season it had a full team available for every match. During the season practices were held in Pukekura Park and were very well attended. There was a marked improvement in the attendance of junior players especially. The financial position of the elub was satisfactory. Although the cash credit was small, there were no outstanding accounts, and there was a good supply of material. Three of the club’s members, H. J. Grayson, S. O. Jones and T. Young, gained places in the representative teams. Since the season closed T. Young had left the district. The balance-sheet showed receipts amounting to £54 19s, and an expenditure of £52 Ils 3d, leaving a credit balance of £2 7s 9d. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr. F. Bayly; president, Mr. V. Elliott; vice-presidents, Messrs. H. J. Abram, C. O. Berg, T. V. .Mackay, B. L. Twomev, and A. H. Atchley; club captain, Mr. A. C. Lawrey; secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. Kelly were elected members. The subscription was altered to 12s 6d for members under 20 years of age, 20s for those between 20 and 25, and 30s for those 25 and over, subject to an increase of 2s 6d at the discretion of the committee to cover any increased capitation fee. Honorary members’ subscriptions were fixed at 10s 6d. It was decided that the headmasters of the Westown and West End schools be each asked to nominate two pupils as honorary members. The opening day was fixed as October 6, and it was left to the secretary to endeavour to arrange two matches with High School teams for that day. It was resolved that members were to be financial by October 31, and new members after that date on election, or they would not be considered in the selection of teams. The meeting concluded with votes of thanks te the retiring secretary (Mr. A. C. Lawrey), the chairman and the Press.
