COCOA POOL UNDISMAYED
CHOCOLATE OUTPUT KEEPS UP. LONDON MESSAGE CHALLENGED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The cablegram from London, stating that the cigarette habit among women had broken up the powerful British cocoa pool, was replied to by the manager of Cadburys and Frys (N.Z.) Ltd. “The cable can only be accepted as an exaggeration and savours of the form of publicity adopted by some distributors,” said Mr. G. Sara, “as competition in the cocoa market has been very keen recently. “The cigarette and cocktail habit with the ladies has been in vogue since the Great War and during this period the manufacture of chocolate has steadily increased. The maintenance of the output can only be taken as an indication that ladies are still eating chocolates although perhaps they are smoking more cigarettes than formerly. “The cigarette habit is a passing phase, and is reported to be on the wane already.”
