The challenge of an air race across tho Tasman has been declined by Squad-ron-Leader Kingsford-Smith and Lieutenant Ulm. “I do not believe in ‘stunt’ aviation,” said Smith. “I would not attempt a flight to New Zealand without a navigator and a radio expert.
“Regarding the proposed DornierWahl aerial service across the Tasman, I like these boats, but regard the proposal as a little premature. I shall tell you more about it on the completion of our trip to New Zealand.”

United Service. London, Aug. 27. It is reported that a company consisting of Lieutenant Ray Parer, who flew from England to Australia in 1920, Mr. Lexius Burlington and Mr. Bert Hinkler is being formed to start a fly-ing-boat service from Sydney to Wellington. Imperial Airways say they do not desire to intrude in the sphere of companies, but if they were invited to cooperate with the backing of the Commonwealth and the Airways Board they would consider participating in any sound scheme. The Southern Cross landed at Richmond late this afternoon, completing the flight from Perth. Ideal weather was experienced throughout the last stage from Adelaide.
