Tile Department of Agriculture has receive dthe following cablegram, dated August 25, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow.—No auction this week, Market very quiet at last quotations. , Apples—The market is quiet. Californian Gravenstein are worth Us 8d to 13s a case. Pears.—Californian Bartlett, 16s to 20s; and Bperre Hardy, 20s to 24s per 451 b case. Wool.—Practically no business at Bradford on account of local holiday. Quotations for tops are nominal and in favour of buyers. They are:—64’a, Merino warp, 4s 4)<l per lb; average, 4s 3d to 4s 3Jd: 56’s, super half bred, 3s 2d: 50’8, prepared, 2s 7d; 40’s, prepared, 2s Old to 2s Id. Hemp.—Manila: The market is quiet but steady: closing value, “J” grade, £37 for August-October and Septem-ber-November shipments. Sisal: The market is fii-mer and good business has been done in all positions. No. lis quoted_at £35 5s to £35 10s, and No. 2, £33 15s to £34 buyers. New Zealand: The market is somewhat firmer, with very little offering at present. Demand for shipment continues. Nominal closing values are:—Highpoints, £3l 15s; fair, £23 15s; rejected, £26. Tow: Second grade, £2l ss; third grade, £l7 15s for September-November shipments. Stocks of New Zealand hemp in London on July 31, 96 tons, against 50 tons on the corresponding „ date "last year.
