On the opening day of the test match between England and Weet Indies the former lost eight wickets for 382 runs. E. Tyldesley made 122 and Chapman 50. Tyldesley was scratchy throughout, Hammond and Jardine giving the best displays. The bowling of Constantine and Francis combined with excel!- nt slip fielding restrained the scoring.
