TARANAKI POWER ROAR’D

THE LOAN POLL. WHAT THE POLLING WAS. la reply to the commonly-made statement that the Power Board loan for Taranaki hydro-electric scheme was car-’ ried by the overwhelming majority vote of the Eltham borough ratepayers, we publish details of what the voting really was (says the Eltham Argus). If the polling had been confined to the country, and the town vote eliminated, there would have been more than the necessary three-fifths polled; and if it had- been a town vote only, the same result would have obtained. The fact is that the people wanted electric lighting and power placed at their disposal, so they voted strongly in that direction.
