SLACK BIDDING FOR LAND
ESTATE OF LATE MR. T. K. SKINNER Bidding was very slack laet night when a number of sections in New Plymouth, in the estate of the late Mr. T. K. Skinner, were offered at auction by Messrs. L. A. Nolan and Cd., In all, 19 residential Motions, two business sites, and one house and, section were offered, but, after trying the whole catalogue, only two residential sections were sold. Despite very cold weather, there was a large attendance. The sections sold were bought as one lot by Mr. E. Gilmour for £245, barely the reserve price. They each contain approximately one-eighth of an acre, have frontages of 35J feet and are adjacent to each other on the South Road near Kingswell Street. Being elevated, they command an extensive view. A large section of 7i acres at the top of Belt Road, off the end of Gladstone Road, was passed in as no bid was forthcoming. Two business sites in Devon Street West, opposite the convent and having 20 feet frontages and 108 feet depths, were passed at £25 per f<ot after a dismal show of bidding. When the bids had reached £BOO an eighth-acre section in Devon Street East, near Eliot Street, was passed, the reserve price being £975. This section contained a house. Fifteen building sections fa ns Carrington Road and Brooklands Road near the Vogeltown ’bus terminus, and ranging from 22 perclies to 2j acres in area, were offered, but the few offers made did not reach the reserves. One of the smallest, with a frontage of about 46 feet, was passed at £l2O. Lot 2, containing nearly half an acre but with a small frontage, could only tempt a £95 bid and was also passed. The larger areas on the Brookland*-Road were offered. but again prices failed to satisfy ef th# estate.
