MOUNTAINEER HONOURED
AWARD TO DB. T. G. LONGSTAFF. British Official Wireless. Received June 20, 5.5 p.m. Rugby, June 19. Awards made by the Royal Geographical Society include that of the founder’s medal to Dr. T. G. Longstaff for the discovery of the Siachen glacier in 1909 and for geographical work in the Himalaya. Dr. longstaff reached tho summit of Trisul (23,406 ft 21 years ago, the highest summit scaled by any men who have survived. He is now in Greenland, so the medal was handed to his wife.
Dr. Tom George Longstaff, FR.G.S.. F.Z.S., M.D., M.A., who is 53 years of age, has climbed in the Swiss Alps, Caucasus, Himalaya, Selkirk and Rocky Mountains. The Royal Geographical Society awarded him the Gill Memorial for journeys in Tibet and the Himalaya in 1908. He re-discovered the Saltoro Pass (18,000 ft surveyed 35 miles of the Siachen Glacier and discovered the peaks of Teram Krangi in 1909. He was a member of the 1922 Everest expedition.
