CARNIVAL FOR BABIES

THREE CANDIDATES ENTER. Three candidates are in the field for the baby carnival that began yesterday. They are Miss Margaret Brown (place aux dames!), nominated by the Girls’ High School, Master Alaric Wilson, nominated by the combined Red Cross and District Nurse Committees, and Master Jeffery Weston, the nominee of the Plunket Society. The High School baby is two years of age, the Plunket baby is one year and eight months, while the youngest of the trio, Baby Wilson, is ten months old. His first birthday will occur in July, and his committee will probably* avail themselves of the opportunity of celebrating it with great | pomp and circumstance. The Plunket Committee have many schemes afoot in support of Baby Weston, and at the Girls’ High School rehearsals have already begun for a play in aid of Baby Brown. Arrangements have been made for the three candidates to be photographed and their photographs will be on view at Collier's. At noon next Saturday the first progress report will be made, Mr. Collier having kindly consented to display pennants from his flagstaff in the candidates’ colours: Plunket, green and grey; Red Cross, red and white; and High School, blue and white.

An executive committee has been formed, consisting of Mesdames J. C. Nicholson. D. Le C. Morgan, A. Patrick and T. M. Avery, and Misses Allan. Jackson, Fox, and Andrew’s, who will meet weekly to allot dates to the respective committees for their various public gatherings. The setting up of this committee will do much to ensure the smooth running of the carnival, which promises to be the chief source of interest and entertainment in New Plymouth for the coming ten weeks.
