DAMAGES CLAIM SUCCEEDS

MOTOR CYCLISTS GET £3849 BOTH MEN HAVE LEG AMPUTATED CARELESSNESS OF CAR DRIVER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June 11. Damages totalling £3849 were awarded Percy John Aldridge and Norman Parata by Mr. Justice Sim in a judgment delivered in a ease in which Aldridge and Parata claimed damages against Albert Goodman, horse trainer, Trentham, in respect of the injuries they received when a motor-cycle they were riding collided with a motor cardriven by Goodman. Each plaintiff lost a leg. His Honour found that before and after the collision plaintiffs were on the proper side of the road and were riding at a reasonable speed. On consideration of all the evidence the conclusion he arrived at was that defendant was not satisfied to follow the wake of another 1 car and made up his mind to pass it. Accordingly he accelerated the speed of his car and dashed across to the other side of the road without having first taken the trouble to sec whether or not there were any other vehicles or pedestrians on that side of the road. Before he knew where he was his motor collided with Aldridge's cycle and the damage was done.
