THE WINTER SHOW.

The Taranaki Metropolitan Agricultural Society's annual winter show has deservedly become a popular fixture, attractive alike to the rural and urban residents of North Taranaki—and beyond. This year's show, which opens to-day under most favourable circumstances, will be formally inaugurated by His. Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral (Sir Charles Fergusson). That it will, in every way, be worthy of viceregal and public patronage is beyond all doubt. Each year the executive of the society, profiting by the experience of past years, has been able to add to the attractions provided for the public, hence the ever-increasing successes which mark the history of the society. Not only have the number -and variety of the exhibits been increased as additional space has been provided, but the arrangement />f these exhibits has become [ a work of art. Apart from what may be termed the display of primary produce, which alone is indicative of the prosperity of Taranaki, this year's show includes an array of motors and accessories which-form quite a show in themselves. To-morrow (Wednesday) the scope of the fixture will be enlarged by a large and attractive exhibition of poultry, pigeons, canaries, etc., in one part of the hall, while in another section will be found a line collection of dogs under the auspices of the Kennel Club. Those in search of amusement will find in the numerous side-shows as much fun as they desire, while there are plenty of stalls arrayed with tempting articles that will serve as mementos for visitors to purchase. This annual show, is an institution well worthy of support by all classes and people of all ages, hence it should successfully appeal for exceptionally liberal patronage, and being open for four consecutive days every resident of the district who is able to get about should find time to pay a visit to what is now the chief exhibition of the year in New Plymouth. It is a unique opportunity for combining duty and pleasure.
