SUBSTANTIAL PRICES PAID. TWO DISPERSAL SALES HELD, A dispersal sale of Mr. W. F. Olson's well-known pedigree “Braeside” Ayrshires was held at Egmont Village yesterday. There was an excellent attendance of buyers from all parts of the North Island. The bidding was spirited throughout and an excellent tone prevailed. The highest price of the day was paid for the young cow Braeside Barbara, which was the gold medal junior two-year-old heifer for New Zealand. She held a junior C.O.R. of 5521 b. fat. She was purchased by Mr. Moore, of Masterton. Dominion Gypsey Newton, a fine 6-year-old cow, was purchased by Mr. J. Morton, of Egmont Village, for 50 guineas. The herd sire, Topnotcher, which was reserve champion at the last New Plymouth Show, was sold for 48} guineas. Details of the sales are:—COWS AND HEIFERS. THE “MONTROSE” STUD, Immediatelv after Mr. Olson's sale, Mr. F. W. Weston’s (Uruti) “Montrose’ pedigree Avrshires were sold on the farm of Mr. Percy Olson. Though the bidding at first was slower than at the previous sale, it quickly livened up and. satisfactory prices were paid for the better animals. The favourite was Struanbrae Barbara, a beautiful 4-year-old cow which was sold for 42J guineas. Another exceptionally good animal in Ivanhoe Mabel was purchased by Mr. N Ordish for 43 guineas. Other cows sold for 36, 33, 32J, and 30 guineas. Both sales were conducted by Newton King, Ltd. Mr. E. Griffiths was sales manager and Messrs. K. Kirk and Cameron were the auctioneers.
