MR. GROUNDS’ OPPONENT
NOMINATION RECEIVED LATE. MAY NOT BE A CANDIDATE. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Wellington, May 22. The fact that a nomination addressed incorrectly was received late has produced an interesting position with regard to the Dairy Board election in the case of Mr. B. T. Booker, of Whitford, a candidate against Mr. Grounds. Apparently there was a last-minute rush in forwarding the official nomination paper, for it had not been received by noon yesterday, when nominations closed.
A registered letter containing the paper was received by the returning officer at 3 p.m., but it was found to be addressed to “Dairy Control Board Election, Wellington.” The postal officials, had placed°a notification in the board’s letter box at the post office that a registered letter had arrived. It was not until later that it was discovered that the letter should have been addressed to “The Returning Officer, Department of Agriculture.” The letter was re-directed but was received too late. It is understood that it is not being accepted.
