While occasionally ox beef sold at late rates, taken as a whole prices were easier. Cow and heifer beef was also inclined to be somewhat easier, competition being erratic. Extra choice ox sold to 37s per 1001 b., choice and prime 34s ,to 365, just killable 31s to 335, prime young cow and heifer beef 27s to 30s, just killable 23s to 265. Sheep.—An average yarding, there being little or no change in values. Extra heavy prime wethers 37s 3d, heavy prime 33s 6d to Sss 6d, medium 31s to 32s 6d, light and unfinished 29s to 30s 6d, extra heavy prime ewes 30s, heavy prime 28s to 29s 6d, lighter prime 25s 6d to 275, other ewes 23s to 24s 6d. Lambs.—An average yarding which sold at late rates. Extra heavy prime lambs 31s, heavy prime 26s 6d, medium 20s to 235. Calves.—An average yarding, with competition keen for all classes. At the wool sales 11,311 bales were offered, of which 6859 were Australian and 3419 New Zealand. There was an excellent selection of merinos, but a limited supply of other sorts. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Stratford, report having held their monthly sale on Tuesday, when to a bench of eight New Zealand representative buyers they offered a catalogue comprising equal to 5 bales wool, 998 sheepskins, 389 hides, 101 tins of tallow' and a quantity of horsehair, etc. Compared with last sale prices, hides dropped Id to 2d per lb, dry sheepskins being on a par to IJd per lb, and salted skins from 9d to 2s 5d each high"’ Details are: —■ Sheepskins (dry).—Crossbred woolly pelts, heavy biddi sound pelts, 4s 3d each; bare pelts, sound, 2s lOd each; short to quarter-woolled sound pelts, Us 6d to 6s 5d each; half-woolled, 3s lOd to 8s Id each; full-woolled sound pelts, 12s Id each; double fleece sound pelta, Ils 9d each; lambs, sound pelts, from 4s 7d to 7s 3d each. The butter market is improving, quotations being 166 s to ICSs.
