OLD GIRLS’ ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING HELD. The twenty-first annual meeting of the New Plymouth Old Girls’ Association was held last night, Miss E, Andrew presiding. The report, which was adopted, said the year had been most satisfactory. Owing to its sound financial position, it had been able to make more than the grants. Besides the usual grants of £lO to the school magazine and £5 for the library, £lO was donated for pictures, this bearing a Government subsidy of £lO, £lO for four school racquets and other tennis equipment, and four seagrass chairs for the girls’ sitting room at Scotlands. In addition, £2 2s each was voted the district nurse and Red Cross funds. When recording the various activities of the year, the report said that £2O had been handed to the Seamen’s Rest Committee as the result of an old clothes sale. The committee had taken the responsibility of working and having marked 78 curtains for the dormitories at Scotlands. It had been decided to set up a Grant memorial fund and a Pridham memorial fund. Miss Andrews had organised a competition that had resulted in an addition to the funds of £lO. Seventy old girls had attended the dinner at Scotlands to celebrate the opening, and on February 25 those who had helped work the curtains wer© entertained Iby the committee at afternoon tea at iScotlands.

Officers were elected as follow: President, Miss E. Andrews; vice-presidents, Mrs. IF. E. Wilson, the Misses C. Douglas, D. N. Allan and Drew; secretary, Miss D. Fox; treasurer, Miss Hurle; committee, Misses M. Kirton, D. N. Allan, L. Gorney, W. Gayton, B. Taylor, G. Day, M. Moyes, R. List, C. Alexander, H. Bullock, B. Hawkins, E. Gibson, K. Wood, L. Bell and M. Grace. It was decided to send a letter of congratulation to Miss Drew, the first woman appointed a justice of the peace in Taranaki. On the motion of Mies L. Hurle, seconded by Miss K. Wood, it was derided that a subscription of 2s fid should be paid by intending members of the association on leaving school, no further subscription being needed, but that nonpayment should not debar anyone from membership. Votes of thanks were passed to the outgoing committee, to the Press and to the chair. It was decided to write Miss F. Nicholson thanking her for her work on the committee and wishing her a pleasant trip abroad. It was decided that the committee should meet on the second Thursday in the month, alternately at 5 p.m. and 7.36 p.m.
