MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. PREPARTING FOR THE SHOW. Several matters relative to the approaching autumn show were discussed at the meeting of the general committee of the Taranaki A, and P. Association yesterday. Mr. H. 0. Sampson (president} being in the chair. Others present were Messrs. W. Hill, J. H. Allen, F. W. Cornwall, G. W. Browne, J. T. Goodrick, H. Trimble, P. J. Petersen, A.. Turnbull, C. W. Ruebe, C. E. Dobson, E. Griffiths, C. J. Harris, W. K. Morris, F. W. Sanford, A. P. Lister, A. R. Gndopp, VV. B. Grant and T. Wilson. Apologies were received from Messrs. J. M. Smith and R. ’G. Ridling. The report of the last meeting of the 'executive committee was read and the following recommendations adopted. That the application of the Taranaki Rifle Association for the use of the luncheon room at the show-grounds be granted; that arrangements be made for a marble slab to be placed on the end of the new pig pavilion to indicate that the buildings were erected from funds bequeathed to the society bv the late Mr. W. J. Davies; that local retailers be. asked io close their shops on the afternoon of Thursday, March 8, peoples’ day at the show, and that the retailers of Waitara and Inglewood be asked to observe a full holiday. It was resolved to accept the tender of the New Plymouth Citizens’ Band to play on peoples’ day at the show. • Mr. J. B. Dunn’s tender for the publican’s booth was accepted. A letter was received from Mr. E. J. Harrison asking for assistance for competitors in the steer-riding contest in travelling to and from the show. The committee regretted that it could not; take any action. The question of owner-stewards was raised, but the committee thought it best to adhere to its previous decision that no exhibitors should be asked to officiate -as stewards during the show. The .supervision of the erection of hurdles was left in the hands of Mr. R. H. Pigott, subject to his consent. With, regard to the refreshments at the show, several sucking pigs were promised by J. H. Allen and . on and other provisions by Mr. W. Hill. Mr. S. Topless offered to donate L‘so worth of debentures back to the society, and he and w. son were elected life members, and are to he thanked for their action.
The chairman reported that Mr. F. Hartnell’s tender for the pig pavilion had ben accepted, and the meeting approved the action of the sub-committee. Mr. R. Dunn, Cover Street, and Mr. A. J. Topless, Brixton, were elected members of the society.
