£250,000 LOST IN S WEEKS

COSTLY BLAZES IN AUCKLAND ——, 100 PROPERTY FIRE'S THIS YEAR. WORST EXPERIENCE OF THE KIND. (By Wire—Special to News.) Auckland, Last Night. In the six weeks since the beginning of this year there have, been more than 100 property fires in the city and suburbs, and losses are estimated at approximately £250,000. This is one of the worst experiences of the kind for many years. Those who are concerned with firefighting and the_ insuring against loss by fire believe that the time has come for an appeal to be made to the citizens of Auckland to co-operate to the fullest possible extent in guarding against outbreaks. They are especially desirous of eliminating the risk of fires in grass and gorse on vacant lands. Not for years has there been such a long ary spell, and Hie need for caution is greater even than is usual in the midsummer months.
