BURGLARY AT WELLINGTON
CLERK ADMITS THEFT OF JEWELS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Feb. 8. Two burglaries, involving the theft of jewellery and goods to the value of £558 from the Remington and Roneo Agency of New Zealand, and William Burd, 'were admitted by a clerk named John Charles Cannon, aged 22, before Mr. E. Page, S.M. The evidence was that goods valued at £226 were taken from the Remington premises, and jewellery valued at £392 from Burd’s. The latter was all recovered, but from £7 to £l6 worth had not been recovered in respect of ths Remington Agency. The accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. In his statement accused said he sold some of the stolen jewellery to a young man named Claude .Weldon Ellison, a clerk, who was about to be married. Ellison was to-day charged with receiving the jewellery, valued at £57 15s, from Cannon, knowing it to be dishonestly obtained. He stated he had picked the jewellery up in the street and pleaded not guilty to the charge. H e was committed to the Supreme Court for trial, bail being allowed in £lOO.
