PUBLIC SERVANTS’ PICNIC

URENUI AND KGRU PA. The annual picnic of New Plymouth Public Servants wag held on Wednesday, a party of about 40 spending the da'y at Urenui, and another, numbering about 35, at Koru Pa. Sports, cricket, tennis and swimming occupied the day at Urenui. The results of the sports were:— Men’s Championship Cup (to be competed for annually).—G. Sullivan (Deeds Office), 8| points, 1; B. Thompson (Lands and Survey), 8 points, 2; W. Stevens (Lands and Survey), 5 points, 3. Ladies’ Championship Cup (to be competed for annually).—Miss V. Mountford (Deeds), 7J points, 1; Miss M. Insull (Land and Survey), 4 points, 2. 100 Yards Men’s Championship (medal presented by Mr. W. D. Armit). —G. Sullivan 1, S. Jakes 2. 100 Yards Ladies’ Champion ship (vase presented by Mr. A. L. B. Ross). —Miss V. Mountford 1, Miss Insull 2. 150 Yards Men’s Handicap.—B. Thompson 1, W. Stevens 2. 150, Yards Men’s Championship.—B Thompson 1, G. Sullivan 2. 220 Yards Men’s Handicap.—M. Ford 1, W. Stevens 2. High Jump.—W. Stevens (4ft Ilin; handicap Bin), sft Tin, 1; H. J. Anthony and G. Sullivan (dead heat) 2. 100 Yards Ladies’ Handicap.—Miss I. Mountford 1, Miss V. George 2. Ladies’ Th rec-Legged Race.—Misses V. Mountford and Main 1. Tennis Tourney.—Miss I. Montford and Mr. J. Redmond. A cricket match, Lands and Survey v. The Rest, was played, the latter team winning by two wickets. Lands and Survey scored 60 and The Rest 68 for eight wickets. For the winner® M. Ford scored 24 and Brown 18, while Groombridge scored 33 for Lands and Survey. The committee in charge of arrangements consisted of Misses M. Jones, M. Insull, I. Mountford and V. George, Messrs. G. Sullivan, P. Wright, J. Southcombe, R, Reed (handicapper and in charge of sports), T. Logie (tennis). The division at- Koru Pa spent a pleasant day. Most of them climbed to the top of Kaitake Peak by the new track, while a good swimming pool was found.
