VISITORS FROM PATEA

A DAY IN NEW PLYAIOUTH. Patea must have presented a deserted appearance yesterday, for it was the day of the annual picnic of townspeople and school children. A special train of 19 carriages brought 800 people, and private cars brought many more. Alany of the excursionists were to be seen in town during the morning, but later in the day they were to be found cn the beaches, at Pukekura Park and at many other popular places. At the Park especially they founud plenty to do. the children on the swings and the adults dancing in the kiosk. The day was not so sunny as has been usual lately, but this did not deter many from having a swim. Two liners were' in port, and these were objects ot keen interest to a large number. The special train left on the return journey shortly after 5.30 p.m.
