UNCHARTED ROCK SOUGHT

SWEEPING NEAR GISBORNE. By Telegraph.—" Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Marine Department has issued a notice to-day, on the authority of the commodore commanding the New Zealand station, that from daybreak on February 13 sweeping operations will be conducted in the vicinity of the reported position of the reek struck by the Northumberland on the Ariel Bank off Gisborne. The operations will probably last several days, and the area will be marked by unlighted buoys. Vessels are warned to keep well clear of the area. Further notice will be issued when the operations are completed and the buoys withdrawn.
