Mr. W. 8. Glenn, New Plymouth, arrived in New Plymouth last evening. Constable G. W. Anthill returned to New Plymouth from the south on Tuesday night. The Waitara Borough Council last night appointed Cr. J. Hine and Mr. W. R. Johns as its representatives on the Northern Committee of the Egmont National Park Board. A large number of Wellington, Palmerston North and Wanganui sportsmen arrived in New Plymouth by the mail train last evening, amongst the number being Messrs. 0. O’Connor (starter), H. Coyle (handicapper), and A. V- OHrien (of The Referee). Mr. Andrew Ernest Kusabs, aged 60 years, one of Rotorua’s oldest citizens and ft pioneer of the timber industry died yesterday, leaving ft widow and three eons, states ft Press Association message from Rotorua. Dr. A. W. Hill. Director of Kew Gardens,’ London, will arrive in New Plymouth to-morrow at 1.15 p.m. bv car from Wanganui. Dr» Hill will be accompanied by Dr. Leonard Cockayne and will leave for Palmerston North on Saturday. A prominent figure in Dominion financial circles, Mr. John Board Hobart, of Remuera, Auckland, died last week at the age of 68. The late Mr. Hobart was well known as a writer of “Dominion Banking.” He was the founder of the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce. Bom in Ireland in 18o», he came to New Zealand under the Katikati Settlement scheme when about 19 years old. The project was not entirely successful and, like many others, Mr. Hobart went to Auckland, where he joined the staff of the Bank of New Zealand. He remained with the bank for over 30 years, and was manager of various branches in the North ™and. He retired from business some 15 years ago.
