TRAINING OF OFFICERS
CADETSHIPS AT WOOLWICH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Feb. 7. The Government has been advised that a limited number of cadetships to the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, are available to young New Zealanders on the nomination of the Governor-General. These cadetships are granted for the purpose of training officers for the British regular army, and applications will be considered from only those young men who wish to make th© army their permanent profession in life. Definite regulations governing the admission of candidates by nomination to the colleges have been laid down by the Army Council, and only those candidates who fulfil these conditions will be eligible for nomination. The cadetships are not open to the sons of parents whose connection with New Zealand is merely temporary. An official course of instruction lasts 18 months, and the next course begins on September 1. Applications must be in by February 15. Candidates must be between 18 and 19 on July 1. The parents have to pay the cost of passage to England, fees amounting to £125 per annum, and personal expenses during the vacations.
